Big-ticket analysis  (reference p.260 in the Handbook of Maintenance Management)

 

If you are instructed to reduce the amount of MRO inventory the simplest way is the attack the big ticket items. These are items with a value greater than $500, $1000 or even $5000 to start. In later iterations of this exercise you can lower the ticket amount.

 

List all the items in stock with a value greater than your target.

 

 

List of big-ticket items. These represent most of the dollars on the shelf. Start with the most costly spare you stock.

What is the Stocking policy for this part?

Is this a capital spare or critical spare?

 

What business action can you take to reduce your inventory level (to zero if possible)?

 

What engineering action can you take to reduce the need for the part to zero
